Going out for some much needed coffee time with Nikk.
Good morning.
Epiphany TL;DR
There are some people who when you say bye to them, you don’t feel sad about. This feeling doesn’t come from lack of emotion for that person or suppressing feelings, but more from the knowledge that you’ll see that person again. That person will always be a part of your life, no matter what, so saying bye to them as they leave on a car, train, or bus is more like an, “aight, catch you on the flip side” situation. Like the days, weeks or months will be an extended and intense, “man, I gotta be with my relatives for x-amount of time so I can’t hang out” thing, rather than distance keeping people apart.
Death, relatives, and the elderly are another thing, because you don’t really know how things will be when you reunite: you might grow apart or they might pass away. Family is one thing, and blood binds us, but friends and even lovers are another thing.
When you say goodbye to a friend, there is sadness that derives from not being able to see them, but the little voice in your head and in your heart reassures you that this is only the first of hundreds of goodbyes with that friend. They will be a part of your life, and there will be times apart like with any other person, but you know for a fact that you’ll keep coming to each other.
I can’t really be cohesive right now because I’ve only had a few hours of sleep, but this is something that I’ve just come to realize. I don’t feel sad right now. Nor empty. Or what have you. I’m usually THE most emotional person when I say bye to someone for a flight, or bye to my family as I leave them for summer, but people like Nikk and Kris, when I leave them I’m just like, “YUP, BYE.” Can’t explain. Friends are friends. And your heart knows more than anyone when it will be a forever thing.
Safe flight, Nikk. Everything will be fine.
